Be A Singular Sensation, the TV Show: Interview with the Virginia Leadership Institute

Be A Singular Sensation 11.7.13 from Elizabeth Lockard on Vimeo.

In November 2013, I had the pleasure of interviewing Ms. Krysta Jones, Founder of the Virginia Leadership Institute!  The Virginia Leadership Institute was created in 2006, in an effort to address the lack of black leaders in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  To date, the Virginia Leadership Institute has trained over 175 future candidates in the areas of: field organizing, fundraising, communications, and a variety of related critical issue areas.

In August, Ms. Jones teamed up with Mrs. Brenda Kelley Nelum, Ms. Cydny A. Neville, and Mr. Donald Scoggins, to present the "Destined to Lead" workshops in Prince William County.  During the first workshop, "Learning the Ropes," participants learned about Prince William County government, how it operates, opportunities to serve on Boards and Commissions, as well as opportunities from the Prince William County School Board.  Those in attendance were afforded the opportunity to meet with Supervisors: May, Nohe, Principi, and Occoquan School Board member, Mrs. Lillie Jessie!

"Making an Impact," the second workshop in the "Destined to Lead" series focused on state level opportunities.  Participants learned about state level Boards and Commissions, had the opportunity to meet with Delegate Anderson, learned about Leadership Prince William from Ms. Kathy Bentz, and left with a plan to become more involved in serving and representing, Prince William County!
